Catching Up

It has been a while since I posted.  I have a couple of reasons:  (1) The internet connection in my dorm room is terrible/usually non-existent; (2) my hubby and I have been busy with packing up our belongings to move to a new (awesome) place!  (goodbye, dorm room!!)

I took a really long time to finish knitting my brother's neck warmer because I am currently obsessed with knitting cables right now!  I just learned how to a couple of months ago.  I started to knit a chunky cabled cowl for my sister.  I made a royal blue one for her in more or less the same pattern for Christmas.  But, being the fashionista that she is, she insisted that a neutral coloured one would also be a necessity.  I have been bugging her to e-mail me a photo of the blue cowl, but as of right now I only have a photo of it on the needles (right before I ran out of yarn...) and of myself wearing the oatmeal one.

I cannot wait to move back to city life...where I won't have to wait
one week to buy more yarn when I suddenly run out!

Also...I am thinking about making a pattern for these cowls.  I am still trying to figure out the sizing, i.e. how high the cowl can go without being too high and folding over, what the spacing should be between the cables, how I should bind off.  So once I figure that out...maybe I will make a real pattern and post it to Ravelry to share.  For those of you who have not heard of Ravelry before...better get on it.  It's like facebook for knitters and crocheters...but better =)

A little school spirit

For Christmas 2010, I knit this neck warmer for my little brother:

He loved it and it was perfect for his lifestyle because as an avid golfer, he goes to the driving range throughout the winter despite the cold weather.  This past Christmas, when my family was opening their hand knit gifts from me, my brother suddenly started to apologize to me for losing his neck warmer.  But suddenly, my mother piped in and admitted that she accidentally broke it, felt guilty, and tossed it!  We all broke out in hysteric laughter because my brother felt relieved that he didn't lose his precious gift and mortified that he had been kept in the dark.  Anyways, not to worry, he asked me for a new one.

My (not so little) brother asked me to knit him a new neck warmer similar to his first one, but in his high school's colours:  royal blue and orange!  He even accompanied me to the store to pick out the yarn for his project.

Here is a sneak peek of the project so far.  I plan on finishing it during my lunch breaks at work this week so that I can send it back to him asap!

My very first post

I have been postponing this first post for almost two months now...so here it is...hello world, I'm Janet and this is my knitting blog!  I have been knitting for almost 14 months now and decided that I needed a location to showcase some of my finished projects and an outlet to ramble about yarn, luxurious knits, and those projects that you start but never seem to finish...

To start things off, I thought that I would make collages of projects that I have finished up to this point.  Not all of them are included, as I have not gotten around to photographing a few of the Christmas presents I did.  But perhaps I will post them another day.  I have a habit of never following patterns and making up things as I go...this year, however, I am going to do my best to at least write down some notes on some of my projects and hopefully make a complete pattern to share!
